Tennessee State’s Allen and Lowery earn Big South-OVC conference honours

The Big South-OVC Football announced its weekly football honouress and two Tennessee State Tigers were amongst the players who garnered recognition.

Terrell Allen -Defensive Player of the Week

Allen’s gridiron exploits earned him Defensive Player of the Week for the third consectuve week. Saturday in the Tigers’ 43-20 victory over Lindenwood, Allen was a menace, recording a game-high 10 tackles ( 7 solo), 6.5 tackles for loss , 4.5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. The Little Rock, AR native has put together his third straight multi-sack game ; the 4.5 sacks is the single game high for an FCS player this season. His 6.5 tackles for loss also set a TSU record. Allen, who Tennessee State head coach called a “leader” in comments to the media after the game, leads the nation in sacks ( 1.69 per game) , tackles for loss ( 2.6 per game) and forced fumbles ( 0.62).

James Lowery- Co-Special Teams Player of the Week

Lowey scord 13 points Sturday against Lindenwood, connecting on three fields goals ( 37, 35 and 29 yards) and converting 4-of-5 PATs. So far this season, Lowery ranks 13th in the nation with 1.38 field goals per game and is the 14th most accurate kicker in the coountry, converting 84.6% of his kicks. As with Allen, this marks the third time on the season Lowery earned weekly conference honors, having been previously recognized on September 18 and October 9.
